Marque have created the branding for the Lion – John DeLucie's of Waverley Inn fame and long time Marque client Mark Thomas Amadei – new Greenwich Village restaurant. The branding includes a bespoke coat of arms and subtle and elegant typography, coupled with simple menus and marketing materials. The Lion officially opens in May and is a beautiful, eclectic spot whose decor is interspersed with vintage maps and art works by Warhol, Basquiat, Damien Hirst and David LaChapelle. The two-story space, which has various interesting areas to dine including a secret dining room has quite the illustrious history: in the 1950's, it was a gay cabaret spot also called The Lion. Barbra Streisand won a talent contest there before she was famous, and a teenaged Joel Schumacher was a bus boy. Our parent company, Starworks Group are managing all VIP services for the restaurant.

D&AD

Vying for the coveted D&AD pencils has finished for 2008. Hoss Gifford, Marque's Digital Director, helped judge the website category, along with Creative Directors from 18 of the top digital creative companies in the world. The website category saw a big increase in entries with over 600 projects from across the world.

A pre-judging stage saw the entries culled to less than 100 - plenty for the judges to spend three days arguing over. The final results were revealed at a ceremony on Thursday 15 May 2008 in the Royal Festival Hall in London. Here are some of Hoss’s favourite entries.

Louis Vuitton Journeys

It's refreshing to see a luxury brand using narrative to such great effect. Don't miss the Keith Richards profile that's been added since the judging.

Uniqlock
If you're going to spend your entire marketing budget on a website, this is how to do it. Any site that has us staring at cardigans for 15 minutes is doing something right.

HBO Voyeur

When a network invests this much on content for a project that only exists as a website and an installation, you know they are looking beyond the limited world of television.

Get The Glass

North Kingdom quite rightly won a black pencil for this masterpiece which truly sets the new benchmark when it comes to production values on a website.

Welcome

On June 1st, Third Eye Design changed its name to Marque. We decided to do this because, over the past 18 months, we came to recognize a subtle but significant shift in our business. This was driven primarily by the people that we have engaged with and by our response to them. Our clients, tending invariably to be entrepreneurial in their outlook, have identified the need for a specialized, dedicated and, above all, a particularly crafted approach to the development and communication of their brands. Our organization has enjoyed and embraced these exciting, although at times, demanding changes, as we also want our business to behave and grow dynamically not mechanically. Over this period we've come to believe that being adaptive – attuned to change – is now one of our strongest qualities. We have become so, not only because it will make us better at how we fulfill clients' needs but also better at how we will better understand and fulfill our own. More so, after having been together for 14 years as Third Eye Design, we came to recognize that our company was actually re-configuring. And that our own identity must adapt also. Welcome.
